Fuck Art – 2.8.12

Last week I got a chance to check out the private opening of the Fuck Art exhibit at the Museum of Sex. It’s a sex themed street art show and there is some pretty rad stuff in it. You should get over there if you have the chance.  Actually if you haven’t been to the Museum of Sex at all you should really check it out. I hadn’t and the whole museum is pretty fucking amazing.

I showed up at the opening because my friend and porn star Andy San Dimas was working with the artist LUSH and was passing out chocolate dicks made from molds of LUSH’s penis and ice cream that may or may not have had actual human semen in it. Plus she was passing out the ice cream topless so it was pretty worth me showing up for. Plus my friends at Candy Rain magazine were involved in the whole show so I felt like I had to show up.

By the end of the opening everyone was so drunk and people ended up sort of trashing the place. None of the art got damaged or anything but I have never really seen an art opening at a museum turn into total madness where people were getting thrown out and people were tagging the walls. Good times.

Lastly on an unrelated note I should mention that you should come back a lot this week. I realize I have 23 galleries of photos that I need to get up on this site and I plan on, starting tomorrow updating at least twice a day every day this week. There should be a lot of naked girls…

Anyway, click right here to see all the NSFW photos from the Fuck Art show at the Museum of Sex.

Art Basel In 35mm

Art Basel was an amazing time. I mean I always have a great time in Miami but this trip was pretty great. I spent six nights on a couch with a bunch of girls who party like maniacs and stay up all hours of the night so I got maybe 8 hours of sleep total the whole trip. I went to a lot of crazy parties, saw some amazing art and got my jock on catching my two favorite teams the Miami Dolphins and the Washington Capitals on back to back days. I even got some nudity out of the whole thing which I know will make you degenerate bastards happy. So yeah there is some NSFW stuff in here.

I took a ton of 35mm shots with my point and shoot camera that I carry with me everywhere. It all started out on the flight down I met a guy named Warren who runs Branded Arts introduced me to a bunch of rad street artists pretty much right when we got off the plane. From there I hit up Liv where I saw my hometown hero Wale and friend of many friends Santigold perform. From there on out it was just work party and eat ending with a relaxing Sunday and Monday catching the Dolphins demolition of the Raiders and then watching my Caps get beaten by the damned Florida Panthers.

You just gotta look at these photos but I wanted to give a few shout outs to some good people I spent time with this trip. This is about to send like the last track on a rap album. I gotta thank everyone I crashed with and their insane dog named Kitty. I made a new friend in Sasha Anter who slept on a couch next to me every night. Lots of good hangs with my homie Lamour Supreme who introduced me to Buff Monster who is real good people. Thanks to Shark Toof again for painting my vest. Shout out to Sailor Jerry and Filter Mag for paying for my trip. Thanks to Kimora Klein for getting naked in the middle of the street in the middle of the night. Good times with Warren and his boy Roger all week. Always good to see my boy Brock Fetch who was in town for Juxtaopoz. I got to chill with him and his editor Evan who evidently was a fan of my site which was awesome. Good peoples there. Good to see Ninjasonik in yet ANOTHER city. Thanks to Jake Jefferson for getting me into some fun stuff. Shout out to Rony Alwin and his lady for being amazing kids. And lastly always good to see Overthrow and party with them at Basel Castel.  And I am out. Fresh for 2011, you suckas!

Just fucking click here to see all the 35mm point and shoot photos I took all week at Art Basel in Miami.

Basel Castle – 12.3.11

Last year at Art Basel my friends at The Overthrow threw one of the best parties of Miami Art Week, this year was no exception. My boys in Ninjsonik were playing so of course this party was #1 on my list of things I wanted to do. Luckily for me my favorite client Sailor Jerry was one of the sponsors so not only did I get to hang out at the insane party but I actually got paid to be there. This is how you win at Art Basel.

The line up of the party was absolutely sick. Aside from the Ninjas Basel Castle featured Yelawolf as a headliner, a Rapture DJ set, Penguin Prison, Bad Rabbits, Chris Cab, Tamara Sky and a bunch more. They had live painting from Ron English, Greg Mike, Shark Toof, Sam Flores and more. There was a photo booth run by my party photo brother from another mother Rony Alwin and a lot of Sailor Jerry and PBR to fuel the 11 hour party. Also the whole thing was thrown by Hyundai who keeps throwing really good Re:Mix Lab parties and even though they aren’t paying me I need to give a shout out to them for mixing art and music really well and paying for rad people to do rad things.

Sailor Jerry had their Airstream on site and as the line wrapped around the block we would pull people in for some Sailor Jerry and a place to chill while they waited to get in. There were 8,000 RSVPs to the party and trying getting in after 8pm was pretty much impossible. Luckily the Sailor Jerry trailer was there to keep people entertained. It was also a spot for artists and rad people to get away from the madness of the party for a minute and have a drink. It was a very cool spot to have access to during the party.

Yelawolf killed it, Ninjasonik were amazing as always and meeting Ron English was a pretty awesome experience but the highlight of my night had to be when amazing street artist Shark Toof had one too many Sailor Jerry and decided it would be a good idea to spray paint my vest. I had just had lunch with him earlier in the day and I was kinda joking about the idea but around midnight it seemed like a really good idea. He had just painted this insane shark and then he turned his cans on me. What I thought was going to be like a two minute thing turned into nearly an hour of him spraying my vest until it was a true work of art. Tons of people gathered to watch the whole thing and I handed my friend Rodger my camera to get a few shots. It was pretty great.

Anyway, this is the last gallery of party pictures I have from Art Basel but I also shot six or seven rolls of film so I will have one all 35mm gallery from Basel that should be pretty cool.  But in the mean time…

Click here to see all the shots from Overthrow’s 2011 Basel Castle party at The Overthrow Castle!

Ps. Just wanted to say sorry to Buff Monster and his girlfriend for getting them stuck outside of the party for twenty minutes when the cops shut down the gate. I hope that huge bottle of Sailor Jerry made up for it…

PBR Art Tour – 9.8.11

Despite my whole life kinda being a vacation there is really only one weekend a year when I actually go on vacation. Every year me and three of my closest friends who I met almost exactly 20 years ago go on a fishing trip. None of us are really the fishing type but it is a good time and pretty relaxing. I won’t be bringing my camera and I won’t be working on my website and I am leaving in about 30 minutes and I guess the point is that I need to get these photos I took from last night up right now so I can take a shower and get on the road so I am gonna make this quick.

Last night PBR brought a mobile art gallery to The Shop in Williamsburg. They had tons of PBR themed art everywhere, free PBR, live art, free made while you wait PBR t-shirts and beedazzled hats and all sorts of madness. DJ’s Monica Sharp and Jenn City DJ’d everything from punk rock to hip hop and my home girl Shira, the Brooklyn PBR rep had a birthday and got drunk on PBR and danced on tables. If I hadn’t hit my head on a cross beam trying to take a photo and nearly knocked myself out I would have had an amazing time. Instead, I watched people have a good time in a total daze. I also watched the Packers beat up on the Saints defense, but that is a whole different story.

If you wanna find out more about the PBR Art Tour click here and if you wanna see all my pictures from the PBR Art Tour at the Shop you should click over here. See you Monday!

Urbana

I am in an online art show over at Dirty Pilot. Dirty Pilot is an online art gallery out of Boston and they saw some of my public nudes in a show in Philly that my friend DAZE curated.  Dirty Pilot asked me for similar shots for their show so I gave them five of my public nudes and I asked them to sell the art super cheap so people might actually have a chance to buy it.  Aside from my dirty photos the show features some sick photos photos by DAZE, Charlie Ahearn, Dave Schubert and Ellis G. The show is up on DirtyPilot.com until May 15th.

I can’t post any of the shots on my site because they are all nude and I wouldn’t want to offend anyone obviously so you are going to have to go over to Dirty Pilot to check them out.  And buy some art already, it’s good for you!

Also the flyer features a shot of my friend Vicki AND I had this update autopost so while you are reading this I am actually at jury duty. How exciting is that?

Introducing New York Neons

A while back I brought you a new site I started called Unseen NYC. Unseen is a street art blog that my friend Rick was doing in Denver and I helped him open a NYC branch. That site is still going strong and needs your submissions! But Unseen NYC is more than just graffiti and street art, it’s a collection of all the small things that make NYC an interesting place to live and to me an important part of that is signage.

I love great signage and sign design.  I love photographing food related items so resturant signage is one of my favorite things to shoot when it comes to inanimate objects.  I also love interesting neon signs and they photograph great I tend to shoot a lot of food related neon signs. I had this idea for about a year to document New York City’s most interesting neon signs but I didn’t really have time to start a project that has almost no potential to drive traffic or make any money. It would be purely a project for my own personal enjoyment and I am pretty busy to be starting large scale projects like that.

Fortunately I have a new intern and so far she has done a great job.  One of the first things I had her do was drive me all around NYC while I took photos of neon signs.  We drove all the way up 2nd Ave from 14th to 42nd and then back down 3rd all the way to Delancey St. I shot over 100 neon signs and she wrote down where they were all located.  Then I had her just start uploading the pictures on to a really simple Word Press template and New York Neons was born!

So thanks a million to my intern Jess Muir and I hope everyone takes a look at my new website NewYorkNeons.com!

Here are a few of my favorite shots so far…

Nicholas Gazin’s No Escape – 1.28.11

My friend Nicholas Gazin AKA the Toilet Cobra AKA Nick Gazin had an art opening at Mishka’s 350 Broadway store.  I don’t have to tell you that Nick’s art is fucking insane, you can clearly see that for yourself. The dude is just a sick fucking artist and seems to be everywhere these days.  He is the Vice Comics editor and shoots and writes Dos and Don’ts for them (including a bunch of the ones I shot).  He designs t-shirts and blog for Mishka.  He shoots photos and was somehow named by L Magazine as one of the best photobloggers even though he was borrowing my camera at the time (he finally gave it back).  And the dude draws shirts and flyers for every fucking rad band.  If Nick can keep up this pace he is going to be a legend and people are going to start comparing him to Raymond Pettibon even more than they already do.

As far as the show goes he had a ton of work on the wall from illustrations for magazines to sketches to paintings.  The show was as packed as I have ever seen an art opening at Mishka.  Ellen Stagg’s shows seem to bring a lot of people out but Nick doesn’t have the advantage of porn stars hanging out at his openings.  I was only at the show for a little bit but it was a great time and hopefully he sold some arts.

You should clearly click here to see all the photos from Nick Gazin’s No Escape show at Mishka’s 350 Broadway.

Cortne Lanier’s Beasts & Burdens

My friend Cortne Lanier had an art opening for a series of paintings called Beasts & Burdens at the clothing store Billy Reid last Thursday.  She is an amazing painter who I met in college when she was using the darkroom to develop prints that she was painting for a show.  She was in the MFA painting program at VCU when I was an undergrad photo major.  She is one of the few people I have stayed in touch with since leaving Richmond, VA and it’s always great to see her when she comes to NYC for shows.  One of the images in the show was based on an image that I took of my friend Vicki naked in the snow last winter.

I just shot a few pictures of the art in the show for her personal use, but I figured I would do a little post about it for you guys.  So I don’t have a full gallery or anything but a few of my favorite images are below. The musicians below are Bennett Sullivan & Thomas Bailey who were hired to provide music for the event.  They were pretty great.  If you are interested in any of Cortne’s art you can head over to Billy Reid on the Bowery or you can contact Cortne via her website.
