Invite Them Up Says Goodbye – Day 2 – 2.26.08

I got to Rififi a bit late and the show sold out and I had to stand in the way back or watch it from the bar area.  I chose to watch it on a screen in the bar.  I didn’t get to photograph the show, but I shot the after party.  I also snuck in to shoot the surprise Yo La Tengo performance.  Comedian Todd Barry played drums.  They did two different songs about Invite Them Up.  The first of which may in fact be the greatest song they have ever written.  The second was a reworking of Bobby’s Girl by Marcie Blane with new lyrics about Bobby Tisdale and Eugene Mirman.  It was a pretty great show, and tonight should be even better.  I am going to get there really early so I can get a decent seat to shoot from. The line up was:

Patric Borelli
Brett Gelman  (w/ Jon Daly)
Pete Holmes
Leo Allen
Andy Kindler
Zach Galifianakis
Todd Barry
Yo La Tengo

Invite Them Up Says Goodbye – Day 1 – 2.25.08

I have spent many, many Wednesday nights at Riffi watching Eugene Mirman and Bobby Tisdale’s Invite Them Up Comedy show. For just $5 you could watch some of the top names in NY comedy try out new material, up and comers bringing their A game, a consistently brilliant Eugene Mirman, and Bobby farting and rubbing his mic on peoples balls. It was amazing. I am very sad to see it go and I will be documenting every day. I meant to get these up yesterday, but I just ran out of time. Tonight is the last night ever and it is going to be crazy packed. If you have a chance to go, I would show up by 7:30 at the latest. Anyway on day one I got there early and had a front row seat to document the show. Here was the line up:

Michael Showalter
Heather Lawless
Greg Johnson
John Oliver
Craig Baldo
Seth Herzog
John Glaser

PS. The biggest laughs of the night came not from any of the comics, but from John Oliver’s velour American Apparel”jumper”. (See below)

Human Giant Returns!

Fuck Yes. Human Giant Season 2 is pretty much wrapped up and it premieres March 11th at 11PM. I hope they have even more success than last season… because let’s face it… these guys are the most famous people I know and the more famous they get, the famouser people I know become and maybe they will become so famous that one day I can get laid because I have Aziz Ansari’s number in my phone… or maybe they will just get to make a third season and I will watch it online and laugh a lot. I think the later is slightly more likely.

Anyway, watch this video it is pretty magical, and hopefully very viral which would make everything very meta and just a little bit scary.

Note to self: Stop blogging when high on sleeping pills.

Yacht Rock Episode 11: Footloose

Fuck Yes.  Yacht Rock is back with a special episode.  For those not in the know Yacht Rock is the funniest thing on the internets.  Seriously.  I think it is the funniest thing on the entire web.  No joke.

I heard they were going to release this episode on the 28th and I searched for it then, but I couldn’t find it.  Of course now, I am three days late with this post cause I am foolish.

Anyway, this episode is the story of how Jimmy Buffet captured Kenny Loggins in order to force him to write a song for the soundtrack to Footloose.  Unfortunately it is completely mocking Jimmy Buffet, and since I grew up on Jimmy and own pretty much every record he made before 1980, I hate to see him mocked.  (I am not even joking. Seriously.) Everyone just knows Cheeseburger in Paradise and Margaritaville.  Fuck that shit.  The man is a god damned balladeer.  Show some respect Yacht Rock.

That being said, the episode does feature Jason Lee as Kevin Bacon, two people I sort of love, so I am still going to have two give the new episode a thumbs up.  Plus there is a LOT of bloodshed, and I think we all know how I feel about extreme violence.

Anyway, dig the vid, dude.

Being A Jerk Method

My friend Roger Hailes just released this video he wrote and stars in.  Also my friends Lindsay and Merrit are in it so I figured I would share it.  It is a parody of the Mystery Method dating show on VH1 called “The Pick Up Artist“.  I am even more amused by it because when I was in Vegas I ran into Mystery at three different parties.  I actually got the number of a girl he was hitting on, so that was sort of funny.  Anyway, I saw this video a few months ago at a comedy show, but now it is available for your viewing pleasures.

Day By Day

When I was in LA I crashed at Day By Day’s place. The last night I was there they were filming a sketch involving blow up dolls, one which was painted to look like my friend Dave. Very creepy. After they finished their shoot, we set up our own little shoot on Dave’s bed. It took a whole 7 minutes, but was pretty fucking funny. I have to admit I was pretty giggily the whole time… but then again I had been awake for 24 hours at the time. I will post the sketch on here once it goes online. In the mean time, look at the photos.

Auto Update #6: Tracy Morgan

I saw these videos posted in a Gawker article about Tracy Morgan.  I had not seen them before.  When I met him I sort of got the idea that he might have been a little bit closer to his 30 Rock Tracy Jordan character than one might assume.  These videos are not new, but they are hilarious and they do illustrate the fact that he is out of his fucking mind… but in a really good way.  He is welcome at my wedding.

Auto Update #3: Zach Galifinakis Interviews Michael Cera

Zach Galifinakis is probably the most famous person who would say hi to me if I saw him on the street. He is also one of the funniest people I know. On top of that I once made him laugh so hard he started crying which has to be one of the highlights of my life. On this episode of “Between Two Ferns” Zach interviews Michael Cera who was George Michael Blooth on Arrested Development and then became a big movie star in Superbad and Juno. It is a pretty surreal interview, but I expect nothing less from Zach.

Pete Holmes Live

Pete Holmes is funny.  Really funny.  I watch a lot of stand-up and he makes me cry almost every time.  On Wednesday I asked him if I could record his set.  He said yes.  He was pretty out of control.  I laughed my ass off as you can hear on the tape.  It is a two-parter as it is about 13 minutes long.  His energy is something that you need to see live but I hope you can dig it as much as we  did.
