SXSW Pics On Mog.com

I know I am not really updating this page like I should be, but I have been shooting 15 hours a day and coming back to edit so I can send them off to my client, Mog.com.  You can check out their SXSW mini site to see a lot of my music shots.  I will have them up on my page when I get back of course, but for now, you have a lot to look at there.  The highlight for me might be the Hussle Club shots but there are a lot of good things there.  Just a few more days and I will have Sunday and Monday mostly free to relax and try to get some pictures online.

And remember, I keep updating my Tumblr and Twitter so check those things out while you wait for me to get to real work on this site.

Anyway I just took a break to charge my phone but I gotta get back out there.  See you guys soon… I hope.

Vice Bottle Report: Part 3

I actually have a bunch of stuff to update you guys with right now, but no time to do it.  I have to get out of here in a few minutes so I will just send you to the third part in my weekly series on Viceland. I don’t remember if it’s four or five parts, but this is one of the better sections.  The last part is pretty great too.

On a news note, today is the end of the film and interactive parts of SXSW and the beginning of the Music part.  My job goes from mostly freelancing and watching movies to working for Mog.com and busting my ass all day only to come home and have to edit and upload photos all fucking night.  I will be getting absolutely no sleep, but I got to sleep in today finally, so at least I am rested and ready to go. Hopefully I will find some time later tonight to update the site again.  See you guys soon.

Anniversary Party Video

So I am at SXSW and totally stressed out.  Today I missed a photo shoot with Steve James who is one of my favorite documentary filmmakers because of a daylight savings fuck up.  I was rushing to meet him when I got stuck in traffic and had to cancel.  It is slightly fortunate that I did because in my rush I forgot to pack my camera battery.  That would never happen in NYC, but of course it happens on the road.  I got dropped off to shoot the Film/Interactive trade show and realized I didn’t have a battery so I had to take a cab ride back to where I am staying and that is where I am now, my day almost totally wasted, updating my web site.

I told you I had a few tiny things to update while I was gone and this is the first of those.  This is a video Dan Baxter made for DJ Jess of Trash.  It just so happens that the day he filmed this was also the 9th annviersary party for Driven By Boredom.  So here is a pretty rad video of my anniversary party at Trash.  It is Not Safe For Work. Enjoy, hopefully I will be back with more soon.

PS. I put up a couple shots from yesterday on my Tumblr.

Good Bye New York, Hello Austin

In just a few hours I am getting on a plane and traveling to Austin for the SXSW Film and Interactive Festival. I am covering it for the Village Voice and then I am headed straight into the SXSW Music festival the next week to cover it for MOG.com. After 11 days in Austin I am then headed to Miami to cover the Winter Music Conference and then possibly to Orlando for a few days to hang out, shoot a party and hang out at Disneyland for free.  Finally my trip will wrap up with a flight to DC so I can steal my parents car for a few weeks because I need it to pick up shit to build and office in my kitchen.  These things are all very exciting, unfortunately it is going to be hell updating from the road.  I am going to do my damnedest to get you guys amazing things while I am on the road but it is very unpredictable.  I have at least 4 updates planned that have nothing to do with SXSW that I can post quickly if I get bogged down, so you should have some stuff, but if I miss a day, make sure you check out my Tumblr and my Twitter because I will be updating those often during my trip. I hope to get bunch of film stuff up before the Music fest starts and then I will have a lot of stuff up on MOG during the music week, but I probably won’t get any of the music galleries up until at least I get to Miami.  Last year at SXSW I shot 6000 photos and was working 20 hour days. I hope to top that this year.

Time to get serious. Have some cute fucking animals.

The Bottle Report: Part II

The Bottle Report series I photographed and co-wrote for Vice released the second episode today.  This episode includes action, adventure, and xenophobia! Amazingly I spelled xenophobia right the first time without using spell check. Things are looking up today.

Also, let me use this blog to remind you of some stuff.  I am going out of town for nearly three weeks starting on Friday.  I will be at SXSW shooting the Film. Interactive and Music festivals for the first 10 days and then I am headed to Winter Music in Miami to cover that. It should be an insane 3 weeks of sleeping on couches and photographing thousands of pictures a day.  Updating will be probably sparce while I am gone but if I have reliable internet hopefully I will be able to get galleries up.

Also I wanted to remind you about my Web Store.  A bunch of stuff has sold already, I hope you wanna buy something too.  Especially one of my prints. They are super cheap at $50 and its the first print I have ever released like this so it is sure to be a collectors item when I become famous for dating a celebrity.

Anyway, I have pics from Sway to go up hopefully today, and I am shooting a rock and roll party at St Jaromes tonight.  It should be fun. Come say hello.  Talk to you guys soon.

Buy Art; Buy Merch: The DBB Store Opens Today!

For the nine year anniversary of DBB I was going to launch my web store and my new Picture Of The Month project but I didn’t have my shit together in time.  I was just going to wait until April since I am gone for most of this month, but I decided to do the free Anniversary Party at Webster Hall tonight, I figure I could launch the projects today.

First: The Web Store.

You can now buy Driven By Boredom stuff!  I have T-Shirts, Tote Bags, Stickers and Buttons.  You get a button and a sticker with any other order, but you can buy a pack of buttons four for $5 or five stickers for $2.  We have T-shirts for $15 and totes for $10.

Also in the store we have the two things that Driven By Boredom Productions has released.  The Gaskets live concert film Lose Change Live DVD for only $5 and the DC rock band Greenland’s first album Call Message for $10.

And finally we come to part two of this post: Print Of The Month!

Each month, for at minimum the next 6 months I am going to be releasing a limited run of one photo.  These photos will be 11″x14″ 35mm signed and numbed prints out of an edition of 25.  I wanted to keep them super affordable so my friends and fans could buy them without breaking the bank so they are only $50. Considering I have sold prints for $250 before that is a pretty good deal I think.  At the end of each month any unsold prints will have their price raised to $100 to encourage people to buy them early and to instantly raise their value.  The prints will also be available in a 16″x20″ version for $150 rising to $250 at the end of the month.

On top of this, I am offering people a special deal on a six month subscription.  You can buy all 6 prints at $50 each for a grand total of $300, but when buying them you also get a 7th bonus print free. You also get the same number in all 7 prints so if you are the 9th person to order a subscription all your prints will be 9/25 giving subscribers a lower edition number.  There are only 10 subscriptions available and the 7th print is out of an edition of only 10. I have already sold five subscriptions. So if you are interested in that you should act quickly. If you want a subscription and you live in NYC contact me before ordering and we can meet up so you can save on shipping.  Each print is a secret until it is announced but at least the first 6 are all NYC based street photography.  If you are seriously considering buying a subscription, contact me and I might be able to show you all of the images.

Lastly I just wanted to say that because I am going out of town for the last three weeks of March nothing will be shipped until I get back unless I get enough orders to justify me getting my shit together and mailing stuff out. After I get back I will be shipping at least once a week. Just be warned.

Now, without further ado I want to announce the first print for March. It is a warehouse I found in Willamsburg filled with nothing but kegs. Order today!

DBB 9th Anniversary Party

Hey kids! Driven By Boredom turned 9 years old on Monday and we are having a party! I am going to be hosting and I will have booze and there will be fun times and dancing magically. There will be a slide show of my images from the last few years projected on the stage.  There are 500 images so chances are you are in there somewhere. As you can see by the flyer it is at Webster Hall.  You can get in for free if you use the side Studio entrance and tell Brendon at the door that you are there for the Driven By Boredom party.  It will be a lot of fun.  I won’t be there until after midnight probably, so let’s do this up really late.  Come eat food with me after at 430 am.  So much diner filled fun. How can you miss this?

Happy Birthday DBB; Plus Tattoos!

Driven By Boredom turns 9 today and I thought I was going to announce the opening of the DBB web store, but my intern seems to have quit on me and I am going to be gone for most of March so I couldn’t really send anything out, so I am going to hold off on it for a little bit. But be warned, I have stuff coming…

Nine years is a long time.  I went to the same school for nine years and it seemed like my entire life, yet I just got an email announcing my 10 year reunion.  Which is actually my 11 year reunion, but my school only does reunions every other year or something crazy like that.  Like we are paired up with the class of 2000.  It is very odd, but it reminds me that I need a celebrity girlfriend by May.  Any ideas?

So 9 years ago DBB wasn’t a party photo blog.  I mean, I put lots of photos on it, and it was a blog, but not anything like it is now.  I mean blog wasn’t even a word then.  I get more traffic now than I did back then, but it seemed like my site was a lot bigger.  1500 viewers a day was a much greater percentage of people using the internet.  Everyone commented and spent a long time on the site and were invested in my life for no reason other than it was there.  Now everyone’s existence is a mini blog via twitter and facebook and everything and no one really cares. Still, I have managed to maintain a fan base, over a very long time and I love you all.

Now to the meat of this post, more DBB tattoos!  Eight people now have my logo tattooed to them! My friend Jess over at Glamour Garage in Williamsburg did some more DBB tattoos for me today. She tattooed two ladies and my friend Nikki.  The two ladies are the lovely Vicki and Emily Delight.  Both of them are gonna have new nudes up on this site this week I think. They should be kinda awesome as they are both shot in public.  Also, all three of them got variations of the logo to some degree so that is fun.  And just FYI Vicki’s is just light blue but she was bleeding a lot so you can’t really tell.

Click here to see more shots of the three new DBB tattoos, as well as a bunch of shots of the old ones.

Here Are Some Things.

So you might have noticed things have been slow around here.  I am frantically trying to figure out my plans for South By Southwest and Winter Music Conference at the same time. On top of that I am trying to figure out plans for the 9th anniversary of drivenbyboredom.com, open a web store, sell prints and plan a show.

Well my SXSW plans are figured out mostly. I am shooting SXSW Music for Mog.com and the Village Voice.  I am also probably shooting SXSW Film and SXSW Interactive for the Voice but I am still looking for work in Austin during the Film/Interactive festival.  If you need a photographer in Austin before SXSW Music starts let me know.  I also might have a little time during Music, so if you have a one off event, let me know about that too.

Less figured out is my WMC plans.  Because it is so close to SXSW its much cheaper for me to fly straight from Austin to Miami.  So I am pretty much willing to make that trip without any work lined up because I always get offers at the last minute.  But I really need a place to stay on South Beach that week.  So if anyone has any hook ups for places to crash during WMC or some parties/events they need covered during that week, please let me know.

As far as the prints go, I just did a bunch of test prints and I am pretty close to ready to open my web store. The store is going to be up on March 1st, the 9th anniversary of this site.  One print is going to be available each month for $50, but to pay for the prints I am selling a preorder package of the first 6 months.  Its a pretty good deal and there are only a couple left, so if you have some money you might want to invest, these are going to be super rare collecters items if I start doing this every month with some sucess. Contact me for details.

All my contact information is listed right above the posts in the Contact section of my website.

And as always when I do a post with boring site updates and requests from my fan base, I wanted to give you something with some entertainment value.  My friends over at Pop Porn just came out with a Jersey Shore parody porn.  It looks fucking hilarious. It stars my friend Lexi Love and two of Burning Angels main fellas. James Deen plays Pauley D and Brian Street Team plays the guy who punches Snooki in the face. He steals the show. The trailer is on YouTube so its pretty much safe, but I probably wouldn’t watch it at work unless your boss has a good sense of humor.  Love that shit.
