Intern Wanted

So once again, I need an intern.  I have a bunch of random stuff I need help with, but I really need an intern to help me with the web store I plan on opening soon.  I have a few projects that are hopefully all going to happen around the 9th anniversary of Driven By Boredom on March 1st.  I am hopefully going to be out of town a lot in March and April as well so I will need help holding down the fort. I also am planning an event for late May so I might get really busy in May as well.

So I am looking for someone who can commit on average 10 hours a week through the end of May.  I know it is cutting it close, but I am pretty sure we can hook you up with college credit if you can figure that out with your school.  I know when I did my internship I had to have done a certain amount of hours and I can make sure you get that.

This is not a photography internship. Once in a while I might need help on a shoot, but for the most part it has nothing to do with photography. I am looking for people who are interested in marketing, specifically web marketing.  I want someone who spends a lot of time online and is comfortable with social networking and really basic html.  People with experience in web design/coding with experience in Word Press would be a bonus but that’s not required.  The job can mostly be done from home, except that once in a while I might need film picked up or something like that. The one thing I hopefully will need the most help with though is mailing shit.  Starting mid Feb I plan on opening a web store. I have shirts, tote bags, prints and some other random shit that I will be selling and I need someone to be in charge of making sure people get their shwag. I figure a post office run once or twice a week should be enough, but it also involves packaging and labeling and all that fun stuff.

There will be some benefits, particularly if you are over 21 (or at least have a reliable ID) as far as getting guest listed to parties and the occasional drink ticket if you feel like coming out with me. With a few exceptions I won’t need you at clubs, but if you want to come out for fun we can make that happen.

Lastly and most importantly, I have had a lot of problems with interns in the past and I need someone responsible and without substance abuse problems. Two of my 4 previous interns ended up totally screwing me over because of their drug problems and I cannot have that happen again. Seriously, if you have a $100 a day coke habit do not fucking email me. I will find out.

Okay, if you are interested in this internship, and you think you can manage to do this without disappearing or fucking up my business, please send an email to igor@drivenbyboredom.com.  If you have a resume that’s great, if not, just tell me about yourself and send me a Facebook link. If you don’t use Facebook, this is probably not the job for you. There will be some tedious bullshit work but will make this job as fun for you as possible.

And for the 99% of people out there who don’t want to be my intern and are viewing this post as a waste of time, enjoy these cute puppies:

Circa Tonight

I got back to NYC late last night and I have several thousand images to upload and probably 8 galleries or so to get up. It’s going to take me forever but I am about to start editing right after this post. Hopefully I can have most of the Vegas/LA stuff up by early next week. In the mean time I wanna tell you guys about tonight. My first party back is going to be Circa at Darkroom. I missed it last week when I was gone but I heard it was crazy. We are opening both sides of the bar this week.  Each week it has been better and better and this week it should be off the hook. I think I am gonna send out a mass text… Sorry…

But yeah, come get wild with me, Prince Terrence & Carol Sharks.  I am sure there will be a guest DJ and there is an open Vodka Bar from 11-12. Get on that shit. Party forever.

And I’ll be back tonight with the first of many galleries from my visit West.

Be Back Soon…

Hey, so I am in LA now after some crazy days in Vegas.  I had a pretty weird night last night s well.  The motel I am staying in has horrible internet and because I just got a new laptop I haven’t set it up to update my galleries from this computer anyway.  On top of that I have been pretty crazy busy.  Anyway, all of this is to say I am sorry, but I will be back to my old tricks soon.  I get back to NYC tomorrow night so you should expect the site rolling again by Thursday.  I have 5 galleries so far from the trip and hopefully I can get another one or two done today so the site should be pretty busy soon.

In the mean time, you can check out one of the galleries on the Village Voice who I am working for out here. It is of the AVN Awards red carpet. Ill repost it on my site when I get back, but at least it will give you something to look at in the mean time.  Also something to look at is one of the most amazing compilations of people hurting themselves I have ever seen.  I would want to watch it over and over again, but at 7 minutes it’s pretty hard to get through more than 10 or 20 times.  But watching someone fall into a grave and have a coffin crush them underneath while mourners scream in the background is one of the most epic things I have ever seen. Yeah well, you are fucked up too. Don’t judge me.

Some Ideas. Feedback Appreciated

As I desperately try to get pictures from DC uploaded I wanted to talk to you guys about some ideas I had and get some feedback if possible. Besides, I wanted to get something up for you before I went out for the night in the likely event that these photos won’t be uploaded in the next half hour or so.

My first thought is that shooting sexy naked photos is boring. I want to do some funny stuff. All the nude photography I like is either really high production and glossy or really funny. And since I have zero interest in shooting anything glossy, I wanna shoot more funny stuff. I posted an idea on my twitter about shooting someone naked wearing a hamburger costume. And while the reality of wearing a costume and being naked seems challenging I got a lot of positive responses to the premise. So if anyone has any ideas and/or feels like getting naked to make those ideas let me know. I would be open to shooting dudes for this. My attempts at making people look sexy are 65% fail.

Speaking of dudes, I really need to do some portrait work for my portfolio that isn’t of naked girls so if you are a DJ or an actor or something I will shoot press photos really cheaply right now. I probably won’t do anything free unless you have access to a really great location, are super weird looking or have an amazing concept that can be set up without me having to do any work, but I will shoot you for less than I will shoot your party. Hit me up.

Lastly I wanted to talk to you about trying to do a photo of the month thing. I have a lot of more fine art geared work that no one sees. I shoot more than a roll of week of 35mm stuff that I haven’t put online. I want to turn that stuff into a show or a book or something. I would like to share some of it and I had an idea. I have sold some of my prints in the $200 range, which is not terribly expensive, but out of most of my friends budgets. I wanted to do something affordable and collectable. I feel like one of my biggest regrets in college was not collecting more of my friends art. I have had tons of friends become very successful in some way or another and getting talented young artists work seems like a good investment. Now, I am neither young or particularly talented, but I do get a ton of traffic and I have taken a lot of photos of a lot of famous people and maybe one day in 30 years I will have a book out with photos of people from the turn of the century and people will be some how interested and copies of my prints will be worth as much as dozens of dollars and you will have one because you read this very post.

In all seriousness, the idea is that every month for 6 months I will print one of my 35mm photos at 11×14 signed and numbered out of 25 and sell it for $50. It is a pretty reasonable price I think. This stuff is not going to be party photos or anything, I think I will mostly focus on my street photography work. Now before I do any printing I want to gauge the interest in these photos. I want to know how many people would likely buy one print and who would likely buy multiple prints. In a perfect world I would be to find 10 people who would commit to buy all 6 images. For this I would offer free shipping and a 7th print numbered out of only 10. If I could get 10 people to pay $300 each up front I could easily do these print runs. So please send me an email at igor@drivenbyboredom.com and let me know what you think. Ultimately I would love to have a new print available every month but I have no idea what the demand is.

Below is the first photo that I want to print for my picture of the month series. It is a photo of kids playing in the fire hydrant on the corner of my street in Brooklyn two summers ago. Let me know if you would pay $50 for a art quality signed print of it. Feedback would mean a lot. Thanks.

On My Way Home…

Well my vacation is over and I am going to be officially back in action on Monday.  If you are reading this before 11am I am on a train headed to NYC.  I needed to get back for my Dolphins game.  And I have some DolfansNYC photos from last week I need to get up so I will use this one post to kill two contentless posts with one stone.  I am both updating you with what’s going on with the site and posting pictures that you don’t want to see.  I think that makes for a solid bullshit post.  DC was fun, I hung out with a bunch of random girls I met in NYC on Halloween.  They took me to some parties, good times were had. But yeah, despite me doing nothing for this site over the past couple of days I got a lot of work done on my portfolio and came up with an idea for a photo show.  Let’s just hope it changes your life for the better one day… although it probably won’t.

Moving on, here are the pictures from the Phins vs. Panthers game last Thursday, and here is the accompanying video.  See you tomorrow.

ATX

I am in Austin. I have been hanging out with my old roommate and his band. We took some pictures and saw a pretty sweet movie. The whole thing is been pretty relaxing, I think I am about to take a nap. I am in a hotel watching Gang Wars on the history channel. Hopefully I am going to shoot a Gods Girl later. Good times.

Anyway, things are going to be slow here for a few days, but I think I am going to get to post the XXL shots from last week and I have a video I think I will post tomorrow. So thats that, I miss you already NYC.

Oh, don’t worry, I won’t leave you contentless. Here are a few amazing videos to tide you over till my next real update. Xo.

Coming Soon…

As I mentioned, this is pretty much one of the busiest weeks of my life.  I have to leave my house by 6:30 and I didn’t get nearly enough stuff done today. I just felt you guys needed some sort of update today, I mean, it is Halloween and all… And besides, the photos I am shooting tonight I don’t think I can even publish.  You guys are really getting screwed here.  So in defense of you, here is a tiny preview of what is to come as soon as I get a minute to breath, which will either be around 5am tonight, Sunday night or more likely some time Monday.  I am also going to link these two photos below to extra spooky Halloween videos. So click them and prepared to be scared.  But yeah, coming soon are shots from last night at Webster Hall.  Simian Mobile Disco was upstairs and a NSFW Burning Angel spectacular was down stairs. Get excited.

And We’re Back…

Well at least for the moment my gallery software seems to be working properly. I have a feeling there are going to be more problems when I try to get up the photos I took on Tuesday. The main thing I need in life is to figure out a new solution for my photo galleries. Jalbum was just not built for a site as big as mine. If nothing else I need a better template so it at least looks slightly like my site. I get tons of traffic to the site galleries, but probably very rarely does that traffic come back to the main site.

Anyway, the Dolphins gallery and the two Yes Men posts now link to the correct gallery pages instead of Flickr. I also will be getting up a bunch of stuff from the last few days in the next few days. I am hopeful to get two more posts up today, but I might take a nap instead. Let’s see what happens.

I wanted to say that the two day break away from Driven By Boredom allowed me to get some stuff done that I had been putting off forever, and I did a pretty sexy photo shoot yesterday. I got a second opinion on my knee and I am going to have to get surgery soon. I also resigned my lease and have a new roommate moving in on Monday. I am not sure you care about any of that, but it is what it is. I will get some photos up tonight, at very minimum the pictures from Trash last friday. While you wait, check out this video of the Yes Men passing out the papers I blogged about on Monday. I show up in the background a few times. I fucked up and slept through their Tuesday prank where Andy evidently got arrested because of an outstanding ticket for riding his bike through a park, but you can read about that here.

Update

So Monday came and went without me being near a computer. That almost never happens, but I had a doctors appointment in the city and I never came back. I just wanted to do a quick update before I went to sleep and let you know a few things that are probably more Live Journal material than a super professional type blog of DBB’s stature, but unfortunately I don’t have a LJ.

Firstly about the doctors appointment. I got the results of the MRI on my knee. Turns out I have a torn meniscus. The meniscus is the cartilage in your knee that separates your bones so they don’t rub together. I have to get surgery and do rehab, but the good news is its only minor surgery. It only takes 15 minutes and I can walk out. The doctor told me I just have to rest it for a couple days and its pretty much healed in two weeks, with max six weeks of rehab.  Compare that to a year of rehab for an ACL tear and I will consider myself lucky.  The other good news is that in the mean time I can walk on it and I am not going to do any further damage to it. This means that I can go and shoot if I can suck up the pain.  And really the pain is not as bad as the super weird feeling of having your knee feel like it is going to fall apart at any minute. Knowing that my knee cap is not going to slip into my shin has been a big help and being able to put my full weight on it has reduced my significant limp into a pretty sweet pimp walk. Lets just hope I can get it together soon, because I have gained 8lbs since my injury stopped me from walking everywhere.

Next personal note is that I cut off all my hair. I had a dream that my mom cut off my mustache in my sleep and it freaked me out. I just woke up and decided to get a shave and a haircut. My friend Ibi did it and before she really went to work she cut it into a bob which is pretty fucking funny.  I will post a picture below. Let me know what you think of the new me.

Nextly I spent most of Sunday under my covers weeping loudly after my Miami Dolphins embarrassed themselves in a loss to the Atlanta Falcons.  They turned the ball over 4 fucking times and their offensive line played the worst game since they drafted the monster left tackle Jake Long. More successful that the Dolphins was the DolfansNYC the New York City Miami Dolphins Fan Club that I started with my friend Michelle. I have no friends who like football, so it has been really great for me to have a day a week where I can hang out with a bunch of Dolphins fans. I lost my voice from screaming so much.  You would think I was insane if you saw me wearing all aqua and screaming at a television for 3 hours. Even more insane that normal. We had almost 100 people show up and the NY Daily News mentioned our bar Third and Long as a place to go to watch Phins games. We had a raffle and raised over $100 for charity. It was a pretty successful party. Evidently I am a better promotor of sports bars than I am dance clubs. I just wish the Dolphins had won.

On a less personal note two more celebrities have passed on. Jim Carroll is now one of those people who died. and while nobody puts Baby in the corner, the cancer in Patrick Swazye put him 6 feet under.  I am a pretty big fan of Jim Carroll and I fucking loved Point Break dammit. Speaking of celebrities, Kanye West is making me hate that I really dug his first two albums and Jessica Simpson is pretty much the only person who could make a puppy dying funny to me.

Continuing on, this Joe Wilson shit has got to stop. Going after a republican for losing his shit during Obama’s health care speech is just divisive and republican tactics. Democrats should have just let it go. They guy looks like an asshole already, if you make this huge deal out of it, they are just going to make a huge deal out of the fact that one of your appointees is a 911 conspiracy theorist. Another story that has gotten out of hand his the Serena Williams melting down during the US Open. If you some how missed it, Serena told a line judge that she was going to shove a tennis ball up her ass after the judge had called a ticky tack fault a that put her one point away from losing her match. She then got penalized a point for flipping her wig and lost the match. People are talking about suspending her for it. Things like this happen all the time in football, baseball and basket ball and no one cares.  When McEnroe did it he got endorsements. I think a lot of the outrage is about her being a black woman in an almost entirely white sport. I saw message board posts calling her an animal and all manor of borderline racist shit. Fuck that. She owns part of the Dolphins now, so I got her back.

Anyway, I have no blind items for you today, but hopefully I will have pics up from the NY Couture Spring show up later. Until then enjoy these sexy photos of me during and after my hair cut.
