Wikipedia Update

Now that I uploaded a bunch of my photos to Wikimedia Commons people have taken it upon themselves add my photos to Wikipedia pages.  I had blogged about how I had taken the official photos for Agyness Deyn and Takeru Kobayashi.  But now, in a matter of two days I have taken the official Wikipedia photo for the following:

I also even have photos on the pages of Lance Bass and Ron Jeremy though not the main ones…  I think it is just a matter of time before I get someone to write a Wikipedia entry for Driven By Boredom.  I am now Wikifamous. Ph33r m3.

So today at 6 am I went to where I thought a bus was going to take me to Rhode Island to campaign for Obama.  Unfortunately I was given the wrong information and the bus was not there.  So my friend Sam and I decided to watch the sun rise over the Empire State Building which was pretty amazing and we just sat on a bench outside of Macy’s and watched people go to work.  Then we took the F train to Delancy and walked over the Williamsburg bridge.  It was a pretty great way to spend a morning.  After that I got a bit of sleep and then decided to be productive.  I scanned a ton of polaroids for this book I am working on and uploaded a ton of my photos of bands and notable people to Wikimedia Commons which is a dump of thousands and thousands of media files that are usable under Creative Commons licensing so that anyone can use them for a variety of projects depending on the specific license.  My photos have a Attribution Share Alike license which basically means that if you use one of my images you have to credit me, and whatever you use it for has to be covered by a similar Creative Commons license.  The immediate goal for me is to get a lot of my images on Wikipedia and replace some of the really bad images that people have uploaded and make the wiki more useful and prettier.  Fun.

Anyway, here you can see a list of my images.  Also, there are several errors with my images because I am too dumb to understand how to work Wikipedia properly.   Hopefully people will make good use of these images.  I am pretty excited about it.  Also, if you see an image from my site or my Flickr page that you would like made available under a specific CC license let me know.

Not In Rhode Island / WTF?

I have recently fell in love with WordPress bullet points.  I am not sure why I never took advantage of them until the other day, so please allow me to abuse them today just to get it out of my system.

So I have two points of note for you today:

  • Firstly is some site news.
    • I am not in Rhode Island campaigning for Obama because I missed the bus.  I am going to go tomorrow though which would mean no updates tomorrow, but I did a pretty sexy auto update that I think you will like (assuming you are a mostly straight male or a lesbian/curious female).  So be on the look out for some of the greatest boobs ever to be featured on this site tomorrow.
    • I just got a gig shooting the Dim Mak/ BPM Magazine party at South By Southwest.  I will be joined by LA party bloggers Cobrasnake and RonysPhotoBooth who I have met, but not really worked with before.  So that will be fun.  Anyone who will be at SXSW let me know, I will have Friday and Saturday nights off plus all day Sunday.
  • Secondly I found the weirdest video ever online when google searching “drivenbyboredom”.  It is over two years old, so I am not sure how I missed it.  This consumer reports type internet show mentions my site around the 47 second mark.  It does not make any sense what so ever why I am mentioned in a discussion about bad Valentines Day gifts, but I am positive it has something to do with this page I made in 2001.

End bullet points.

Driven By Boredom 7 Year Anniversary!

7 years ago today Driven By Boredom opened it’s doors. I meant to do something special for it, but I completely forgot until late last night. I talked to DJ Jess about celebrating it at Trash in the next few weeks, but that is up in the air. So for this update I am just going to show you what I was doing back in March of 2001.

And lastly check out the amazing logo I had 7 years ago… insane:

Bus Riding

So I originally thought I was going to be gone from NYC on just Friday and Saturday. I figured I would have been back by Sunday night. Somehow I ended up being out of town for a full week. I missed 7 nights of parties and dancing and girls and fun. I replaced it with several days hanging out in Richmond, VA and then three days sitting at my parents house doing NOTHING. I have no idea what I was thinking. Part of it has to do with their HBO On Demand and season 5 of The Wire, but Jesus… I did nothing. I was so unproductive, I just slept and sat on my ass and ate. I have almost no friends in DC anymore and absolutely nothing to do when I am there. If anyone wants to introduce my to some people in DC… girls maybe… that would be amazing. I can’t take being that bored.

Anyway, I am on the way back now. Yes, I am on the bus. I take the DC2NY bus. It has wireless internet, plays movies, and makes no stops from DC two New York and it is only 22 dollars or $40 round trip. You pay more than that in just tolls if you drove. That is China bus prices, and I have yet to see one chicken on the bus, they have air conditioning and everyone speaks English. Truly amazing.

Anyway, I wanted to make a video of me using internets on a bus, because I think it is just another example of how we are living in the future. It is both fantastic and horrifying. Anyway, I tried to film myself with the trees in the background, but because the web camera on my computer cannot handle lighting my face and the background at the same time either you could see trees or you could see my face, but not both. Long story short, I was trying this while listening to music and Tyler Fedchuk’s 1/2 Alive Baltimore Remix of Frankie Valli’s Can’t Take My Eyes Off You came on and I was just outside of Baltimore so I figured it would be appropriate music somehow.

This video is just weird and you probably do not actually want to watch it, but I am bored and reading on the bus makes me sick so I did this instead. This whole post was totally pointless. Sorry. Back to business tomorrow.

VA

So… I am at an Econo Lodge in Richmond, VA.  I went to see the Gaskets play last night and I think I have a bunch of pictures, but I don’t have any way to get them off my camera as of yet.  Then today I saw De Novo Dahl who are are amazing.  They were randomly playing in a record store in Richmond today.  I have pictures of them too… All of that will be up sooner or later.  I am not exactly sure when get back, but I think I’ll be in DC tomorrow and I can dump photos then and maybe update this for real.  I will probably end up getting back to NYC Monday night, so expect to be back to normal by Tuesday.  And since I hate bullshit site updates like this you now get to watch this amazing video of this 14 year old that I wish I could be dating.  Thanks to Brynn for making me aware of said video.  So good.

Day Off

I took the day off yesterday for the first time since March or something. I just felt like doing nothing, and I had an adventure to go on. I think I will have to tell you all about it later, but it was not the type of thing I do every day. I have pictures that may or may not go up soon. Insane.

In other news, I got sleeping pills again, so I might be able to function a bit better, although I slept for 11 hours last night, so that is probably not a positive step in sleep recovery.

Starting tomorrow I look for a job, for serious. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I am looking for anything part time. Seriously anything.

I had planned on going to Virginia tomorrow to vote and hold signs for Obama, but it does not look like I am going to be able to make it, which is completely bullshit. I am so involved in this election right now and I am not even going to be able to vote. I need to change my registration ASAP. I argued with a girl over the Clinton/Obama thing for like an hour last night and then took her to a party where she did a bunch of my friends coke and had a bunch of fun and then told me she hated me because I was voting Obama. Great.

I have started carrying around a point and shoot film camera everywhere I go. I don’t know how I am going to pay for all the film and development or what I am going to do with the images, but I think it will be a very positive improvement in my life. I will probably be doing it for a few weeks/months before you see any of the images, but in one day yesterday I shot nearly 100 images.

Today is going to be a slow day with no pictures for you and with no real updates planned other than a call to my VA voting friends. There is some Polaroid news hitting the blogsphere like a hammer that I figure I should mention and thats about it today. This is one of those bullshit posts where I tell you why I am not updating. We hate those, but some times they are necessary…. I always try to make them interesting at the end with a cute video to make you feel like you didn’t waste 4 minutes of your time reading bullshit.

Oh Hey! Amazing! When looking through YouTube I found a video I actually want to talk about. One of the featured videos was a video by Noah Scalin who is a graphic designer who taught one of my best friends Teddy from The Gaskets. Noah actually directed this video for the Gaskets and now he has a featured video on myspace. Congrats Noah!

Update: I just got a Facebook message from Noah about his Skull A Day project.  Now you have the official website!

Super Naked Tuesday

So it was going to be Naked Monday, but because of the Giants win and my Obama soap box Naked Monday got moved to Super Naked Tuesday.  The idea is that I want to go nudity free for at least a week.  I have three naked related posts waiting to go up, so I am going to dump them all on you now, and then go to sleep.  I have been up 30+ hours and I spent 7 of those hours down at the Giants parade taking photos and campaigning for Obama.

Anyway, this photo is the only photo I saved from a mini photo shoot with Ariel (who goes by Dusty on Burning Angel).  I think I just wanted to have a conversation with her away from everyone so I pulled her into the bathroom under the guise of taking photos, cause I only took like 5 of them.  This photo I LOVE though.  It is seriously one of my favorite photos ever.  So I wanted to post it for your viewing enjoyment.  If you want to see more of her you could click here, or see her make out with another girl naked in the same bathroom this photo was taken, click here and if you want to see her discus nude mixed martial arts, click here.

DBB Endorses Barack Obama

I have stayed pretty quiet about politics on DBB and intentionally so. I am someone who has always been very interested in politics and in the past have campaigned for people. In 2004 I worked for Wes Clark and in 2000 I registered as a republican so I could vote for John McCain in the primaries. After I campaigned for Clark and then again for Kerry in 2004 I was pretty much destroyed with Bush won a second term. I just felt like the bad guys had won and I was devastated. For the next few years I was completely disinterested in politics.

I am very liberal, but in this current election I have sort of stayed out of the way. On the issues Mike Gravel is pretty close to what I believe in… But of the two candidates who actually have a shot, I think they would both make good presidents. Hillary’s attempts at health care reform during Bill’s term in office were inspiring and I have always appreciated that. I think she knows how to get legislation passed and has a good track record in congress. I think her vote to go to war has been slightly blown out of proportion. The majority of people were in agreement with that vote at the time, but I was not one of them, and neither was Barack Obama.

In 2004 we all watched Obama become a celebrity over night. His speech at the Democratic National Convention (Part 2) inspired everyone in the party. I thought that a few years down the road he would make an excellent presidential nominee. I figured a few years in the senate was not enough to base a presidential run on. Clearly I was wrong.

With the two of them head to head I was worried about their electablity. Not only would it be harder to elect a woman or an African American, but I think that Clinton can be very unlikeable and Obama has the issues of inexperience. I told myself that I would just wait to see who came out on top, and then get behind that campaign. I didn’t even get my registration moved from VA, to NY in order to vote on Tuesday. I figured I would worry about it later, and until yesterday I was okay with that.

Last night, my mother changed my mind. My mom is extremely active in politics. She was the woman who got me to really get behind Wes Clark, and she is the woman who has pulled me into the Obama camp. After Tuesday, it might be too late, but I will do what I can in the next few days. What she said to me really made a difference. We had a two hour conversation about the campaigns and I had to pretty much hang up with her around midnight because I needed to go out. She told me that seeing Obama speak was like watching JFK. She said that he is the type of leader that makes people understand they have to make sacrifices for the good of the nation. She talked to me about how before Reagan Republicans and Democrats worked together and actually got things done. There were compromises. Obama is someone that can bring this country together. He is a leader.

I think she is right. When I hear him speak I get excited. He has the overwhelming support of the youth vote, not just because he is young, but because he is the future. He is the next chapter in American history. I believe that both of the Democratic candidates have what it takes to be a good president, but Obama has what it takes to be a great leader. Watching clip after clip of him on YouTube just gets me excited. He will move millions; he has moved me.

This country wants change, and Barack Obama is the man to bring it.

New York, vote wisely this Tuesday. Your country needs you.
