Sailor Jerry Party – 3.20.09

In under 2 hours tonight I broke my keyboard and possibly my camera.  I had a photo shoot that went well until my shutter jammed.  After removing the lens it seems to be working fine, but I do not know.  Later my keyboard had a few letters stop working.  That is making typing this very hard.  Cutting and pasting letters is not fun.  So I am going to make this short.

These photos are from the Sailor Jerry party at Beerland at SXSW.  I posted the Circle Jerks shots, now here are the party photos.  Do not ask me who the other bands are because I have no idea.  There is a photo of the flyer in the gallery if you want to figure it out.  I shot these for Inked Magazine.  These are the out takes.  The best of the bunch will be published in Inked soon.

Click here for the photos.  I will update tomorrow on the computer I use solely for editing images.   Fuck.

Three Kings Anniversary – 3.6.09

A while ago I shot some photos for Inked Magazine. They were taken at Matchless in Greenpoint to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the Three Kings Tattoo studio. Coincidently right after the event I had to go to my website’s 8th anniversary party. Two days before I had been tattooed by Betty Rose and she was there which was cool. As was the Suicide Girl (Calamity) I met at the Glamour Garage fashion show. My friend Minka was there and I hadn’t seen here in a year, and my friend Kari who I had not seen in probably 3 years. I even met a really hot girl who is tight with DBB friend, DAZE. It was just cool seeing all these people I didn’t expect to see. I figured I wouldn’t know anyone but the Inked staff. At the party there was a big cake fight between the Three Kings and a lot of drunken madness. I was only there for two hours before I had to escape to my party but it was a lot of fun. At some point I did some hand stands for a photo booth they had there. I wonder what happened to those. Whatever the case is I like hanging out with tattoo artists because I have a lot of really dumb idea for tattoos, and I need to talk some people into doing them for free.

Anyway, I am watching Myth Busters while I write this so it was probably a bit rambling and pointless. But you can check out all the photos here. While you do that I am going to go back to watching Jamie and Adam try to land a lawn chair using a pellet gun.

Driven By Boredom Tattoos Austin Edition

Two of my favorite Austinites, and possibly two of my favorite people ever, were dumb enough to get my logo on them today.  I was hanging out with my old roommate and hero Michael “Smoke Bomb” Kristoph who now lives in Austin and is letting me sleep on his couch during South By Southwest and my second biggest internet crush Chelsea. We were sitting around a bar joking about bad tattoos, and Chelsea just called her tattoo friend and they got the logo 10 minutes later.  The tattoos were done by Matt Morren at Dandyland Tattoo on 6th St in Austin.  He is my new best friend.  He drew ball hairs on Chelsea’s logo and lightning bolts on Michael’s.  Also Dandyland is amazing because two years ago they sold me a new lip ring for like two dollars and one of the dudes working there has a Mishka tattoo and complimented my new Jordan’s.  How is that for a link filled post? Amazing.

Driven By Boredom Tattoos

The DBB 8th Anniversary party part 2 at Cain last night was insane.  I will have all the photos up tomorrow.  You guys gotta come out to Trash tomorrow night, I will be giving away the rest of these T Shirts. Hit me up for guest list, I still have a few spots.

Before Cain, and before I got my new tattoo, I went over to Glamour Garage in Williamsburg to hook my friends up with some Driven By Boredom tattoos.  Glamour Garage hooked them up with free tattoos to celebrate the 8th Anniversary, and I have done (and will be doing more) photo work for them in trade for DBB tattoos, so if you want to look as awesome as these sexy ladies, let me know.  I have a list of 8 more people who told me they want some so hopefully we can keep posting shots like this.  Thanks to Dakota at Satan’s Hammer who just happened to be stopping by Glamour Garage and hooked the girls up with their ink even though GG’s normal tattoo artist Bryan was out of town.

Now without further ado, here is JoDee and Bianca rocking their tattoos at the anniversary party last night.  More pictures coming soon…

Aloha Monkey

I don’t know if you guys have spent a lot of time hanging out in tattoo shops, but the most consistently annoying thing about being in one is listen to idiots joke to their friends about getting the really bad tattoos hanging on the wall. Everyone does it, myself included. I think it is unavoidable somehow. One of the most joked about tattoos is the infamous Sailor Jerry “Aloha Monkey”. For those who don’t know, Sailor Jerry was this bad ass tattoo artist living in Hawaii who basically created the “Old School” style of tattoo design. His tattoo flash is a must for any tattoo shop that has tattoos designs hanging on their walls. The Aloha Monkey is one of his classics. It is a drawing of a monkey reaching between his legs and spreading his ass cheeks open. With his nuts hanging and asshole agape his back side reads ALOHA with the brown eye making the O. It is hilarious and a tattoo that no reasonable person should get. Well folks, I am not a reasonable person. I have been joking about getting the Aloha Monkey for a decade and it was finally time to put my monkey where my mouth was. Or at least put him on my leg.

Yesterday Red Rocket Tattoo was doing $100 Sailor Jerry tattoos (and pretty much any small tattoo) to benefit a coworker who’s daughter recently died. They needed money to help pay for funeral costs. My friend Sarah Lee told me about it, and I though this would be a perfect time to get the tattoo and help out a good cause. My tattoo was done by Betty Rose who did great job and who I will probably go back to when I get up the balls to get my next really bad idea for a tattoo, the Ghostbusters II logo. As I said before, the Aloha Monkey is pretty classic. When I walked to Red Rocket and told them I wanted to get the Aloha Monkey Betty’s eyes lit up and she said “He’s mine!” She told me she had never done it and that every tattoo artist has to do it once in here career. Well Betty, I am glad I could help.

Click the photo below to see it on my leg.

Glamour Garage Fashion Show – 2.13.09

I shot the Unlucky In Love fashion show for Inked Magazine last Friday. There is going to be a page of shots in the May issue of Inked but I put up all the hundreds of out takes here. I just hung out back stage and shot the girls getting ready and stuff. I was still super sick, but I got some okay shots I think. The show was a promotion for Glamour Garage run by Rebecca Faye. It is a beauty salon and tattoo parlor in Willamsburg. Rebecca is pretty awesome and I think I am going to do some photo work for her salon in trade for free Driven By Boredom tattoos. That means, that if anyone out there wants the DBB logo tattooed to them, we can get you hooked up. Seriously. If you are crazy enough to get my logo tattooed to you let me know. We will hook it up. I have a list of like 5 people who want to do it, so let’s get nuts.

Anyway, the show was at Europa and then there was an after party at Alligator Greenpoint. There are a few shots from there but 90% of these are from Europa. Also, Gibby Haynes from Butthole Surfers DJ’d, a Suicide Girl hoola-hooped (the most adorable Calamity) and some insane guy name Mr. Move performed. It was out of control.

Check out a bunch of photos of half naked girls here.

Pop Off – 9.6.08

So Pop Off was last night. It was co-sponsored by Tattoo Society Magazine which was sort of a surprise. It was a pleasant one as it made for good photos and I got to meet a girl with a Charles Bronson tattoo which was extremely bad ass, despite as I told her, that he was in the worst movie of all time. My old school internet friends were in town, but Rebel was not their scene so they left pretty quickly but I stuck around and had a pretty good time. Anyway, the Dolphins lost today and I am horribly depressed so I am just going to end this post here and go to sleep again. This gallery is NSFW due to topless go-go dancers. Enjoy all these lovely photos.

PS. If there are any NYC Tattoo artists out there who read this and have any interest in tattooing my logo for free on a bunch of people in trade for me posting your portfolio and stuff, let me know. I keep meeting people who tell me that the will get my logo on them if I pay for it…

Jeeeeez…

Holy Jeezus. I have had a pretty crazy few days. I just got off a 6 hour bus ride and I am getting rushed off to some party in Orlando. I broke ANOTHER camera… this time my Yashica film camera. But at least it was broken in a fantastic fashion. We trashed the penthouse at the hotel in amazing fashion while listening to old hardcore music. I have pictures of the devastation. It is fantastic. I really have to rush off now, but I have crazy stuff to talk about and photos to show.

In the mean time, I just wanted to show you my new tattoo.  I decided that if I was in Miami I would get a Miami Dolphins tattoo. Despite my absolute love of the Dolphins, I am not quite lame enough to get a football tattoo, so I decided I would get Dan Marino’s number which luckily for me is the number 13, which is totally rock and roll. So I got like a hard core rock and roll 13, that happens to be aqua and orange. I also got my arm filled in a bit so it looks more sleeve like.

It ended up being a lot better than I thought it would be. I can’t find the guys card who did it but in a few days I will post a better photo with a link to his portfolio. I know the card is in my bag somewhere. Anyway, good dude, funny tattoo.

Dance Chicken Dance!

When I was in Richmond with the Gaskets I was bored as hell in the recording studio because they were just recording guitar tracks over and over again and my in put is not valued. I just sat there working on an animated GIF of my chicken tattoo dancing. I then put it to music and made a meme out of it on ytmnd.com. Check that shit out here.
